I don\u2019t know about you, but I can\u2019t believe another year is here already. It just isn\u2019t possible. I mean\u2026 I only just stopped putting 2014 on my checks. It seems like just a tiny bit ago when I was standing in the middle of Key West\u2019s Duval Street for the New Year\u2019s doo-dah. That year I stood in front of the town\u2019s most famous gay bar watching a drag queen\u2026 in a giant ruby red slipper being lowered from the second floor balcony. That was the 2011 to 2012 celebration. My New Year\u2019s eve celebrations ever since have been pale by comparison.<\/p>\n
This year I\u2019m making no \u201cNew Year\u2019s resolutions.\u201d Instead I\u2019m keeping the one I made standing there in the middle of Duval street in 2011 to 2012. That year I waited till the last minute to figure out what the resolution would be. At first, I thought I would resolve not to procrastinate so much. But I thought better of that and decided I would save that one for another time.<\/p>\n
Instead, I resolved to make no more New Year\u2019s resolutions. I\u2019ve done a good job of keeping that one. I\u2019m doing better than 99.9999% of the people in this world. I mean, they make a resolution a little before the \u201cball drops\u201d at midnight\u2026 something like, \u201cI\u2019m gunna quit smoking this year.\u201d As they are downing the new year\u2019s first frozen concoction to help them hang on\u2026 just as they finish mumbling the words of \u201cAuld Lang Syne\u201d, they light-up. And so go the resolutions. By noon the next day most resolutions are in the trash can.<\/p>\n
If were to make any resolutions\u2026 which I\u2019m not\u2026 here is what I would do:<\/p>\n
First\u2026 I would vow to make this blog what I originally intended; a weekly musing about the world in general, stuff about my travels, and in particular\u2026 fun in the sun. Since that was my original plan, it\u2019s not a New Year\u2019s resolution\u2026 but I\u2019m gunna do it starting now.<\/p>\n
I would resolve to not write about political stuff, but for this coming year it would be impossible not to make comments about \u201cThe Donald.\u201d So I won\u2019t make that a resolution. (Come on folks\u2026 \u201cThe Donald\u201d for President\u2026 have we lost our minds\u2026 is that the best we can do? Give me a break. Imagine him as the Commander in Chief… with the military at his disposal to do what he wants\u2026 send all the Japanese in this country to internment camps. And with his finger on the button, I\u2019ll have to move to some place the nuclear fall-out won\u2019t reach.) See\u2026 New Year\u2019s day isn\u2019t over so there would have been no point in making the “no politics” resolution.<\/p>\n
I will try to take a look at the funny or absurd side of politics. I\u2019ll try to do it without political slant. I\u2019ll just \u201ccall out\u201d anyone that deserves it. I thought about running for President myself\u2026 you know, doing an Alfred E. Newman type campaign (What, me worry?)\u2026 or a Pat Paulson type campaign. (For those that don\u2019t know who these guys are\u2026 Google is your friend.) But if I did that\u2026 \u201crun for President\u201d\u2026 someone would take me seriously and the fun would go out of it. So I\u2019ll be poking a lot of fun without running. Oh\u2026 and Donald\u2026 Yer fired!<\/p>\n
Another resolution might be to\u00a0consider giving up so many frozen concoctions to help me hang on. But since I\u2019ve developed a taste for Kahlua and Bailey\u2019s Irish Cream, I\u2019ve already having fewer frozen concoctions. In fact, as I write this I\u2019m having a few sips of my new favorite “nectar”.<\/p>\n
Since I\u2019ve been accused of being \u201cover-sexed\u201d, I thought I would\u2026 Well, that isn\u2019t one either since I gave up most sex in the spring of 2014.<\/p>\n
Then there are those resolutions that are to do good for mankind. I applaud those kind of resolutions. Since I\u2019ve already spent a large portion of my life in the service of mankind\u2026 you know, keeping the world free from Democracy, I think I already have that square filled. So no resolutions in this area. OK\u2026 I donate some time and a bit of cash, but that\u2019s an on-going thing. That said, if you are looking to do something for someone, here\u2019s a simple way to help out someone that isn\u2019t asking for much, but needs the help just the same. For about the price of a frozen concoction to help you hang on\u2026 you can help make someone\u2019s New Year a little better. (By the way\u2026 this came to me from a reliable source that knows these folks. They are real and this is not a scam.) This brother and sister lost their dad just before Christmas and their mother a little before that. They had to borrow money to pay for their dads cremation. Click HERE <\/a><\/span><\/strong>for the link to the fund raiser.:<\/p>\n I do not resolve to loose weight (I\u2019m already just right)\u2026 or to quit smoking (I already did that)\u2026 or to dress better (shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops are just fine for me)\u2026 or to get closer to god (I\u2019m going to be there soon enough)\u2026 or to make more money. Well, I might have to reconsider that last one. But for now, no self improvement resolutions for me. I already get enough directions and instructions from Bloody Mary to more than take care of this area.<\/p>\n Don\u2019t get me wrong. I don\u2019t have anything against New Year\u2019s resolutions. If you think about it, these resolutions are about hope. Each New Year brings new hope\u2026 hope for a better you\u2026 hope for a better life\u2026 hope for a better world. Maybe that\u2019s why I don\u2019t feel compelled to have a resolution\u2026 I have a good me, a good life and despite what some \u201cdown in the mouth talking heads\u201d might say, I live in a pretty good world.<\/p>\n So, there you have it. In keeping with the spirit of the 2011\u2013 to \u2013 2012 resolution, no new resolutions for me. No sir-eee. I would have alaready \u201cbaled out\u201d by now with some lame excuse any way.<\/p>\n I\u2019ll stop here so I can get this posted while it\u2019s still New Year\u2019s Day.
